The Balvenie Call Of An Island
Call Of An Island
Anne was asked to create a cocktail to celebrate the launch of The Balvenie A Rare Discovery From Distant Shores - a 27 year old whisky finished in ex-Caroni rum casks. It was an obvious choice to open the evening with a cocktail that is mixed with The Balvenie Caribbean Cask 14 Whisky. The whole event was an homage to exclusive, fascinating taste that is enjoyed in best company and took place at Karl & Faber Fine Art Auctions in Munich.
The "Call Of An Island“ cocktail embodies the longing for distant shores. It is a dance that joins the rough beauty of Scotland with the tropical joy of life in Trinidad & Tobago while celebrating the exciting rum cask finish of The Balvenie Caribbean Cask 14 Single Malt Scotch.
40 ml The Balvenie Caribbean Cask 14 Whisky
20 ml Lustau Jarana Fino Sherry
15 ml Banana Nutmeg Oleo Saccharum
10 ml Barbeito Verdelho Madeira
10 ml Riesling Verjus
1 Barspoon Mango Vinegar
Garnish: Bee pollen chili dust
Coat the outside of the cocktail glass with a thin layer of date syrup. Cover the syrup with the Bee pollen chili dust.
Stir all ingredients on ice for 10 seconds and pour into a cocktail glass.
The warm sweetness of banana leads the soft nuances of the whisky. A hint of nutmeg asks the spicy side of The Balvenie to dance and emphasizes the echo of sweet oak wood. The cocktail gets its subtle dry note through the combination of dry sherry and sparkling verjus. The vinegar from sun-ripened mangos unites and sets accents. It gives the cocktail its silky texture and surprises with a tingling fruit component. The fruity and fresh-spicy choreography of the "Call Of An Island“ cocktail is being rounded by a sip of full-bodied madeira.
This cocktail dances gently and energetic, always with the rough easiness of The Balvenie and the tropical soul of Caribbean casks.
